Montréal Métro Line 7, often referenced as the White Line, was a planned underground subway line for Montreal Metro.
Proposed for the first time by the Bureau des Transports de Montréal (BTM) in September 1983, the original project for a new north-south line (Line 7) would have had 10 stations (from Pie-IX to Léger) running under Pie-IX boulevard, going through Saint-Léonard and going north-east towards Rivière-des-Prairies. A year later, at the start of 1984, it then got formally proposed by the Communauté urbaine de Montréal (CUM), this time having 12 stations (from Pie-IX to Maurice-Duplessis/Langelier).
For nearly a decade (1980-1990), that line appeared on all official Montréal Métro network plans. Since white was the color used to display it, it received the unofficial nickname of "White line". But "Line 7" is the only official name used. Other nicknames include "Pie-IX line". Montréal Métro system has another projected subway line, number 6, which number was reserved for a surface metro line proposed by the Ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ) running on the northern shore of the island, from west to east. But, contrary to Line 7 which got very far in terms of studies and public talks, Line 6 never went as far as being displayed on a system map.
